听写战队第9季 Team#I091 //2014 May 31
Before the Challenge:
I started participating in the Dictation Challenge since Season 7. I really enjoyed the experience and found it motivating. In this Season 9, which ran from May 01 to May 31, there were major technical upgrades to the team-forming procedures and scoring systems. During the team-forming phase, the system managed the teams and the participants. I liked the new system a lot. As a team leader, I could quickly assess the compatibility of potential team members. The biggest improvement I like was the set number of members per group. Instead of having to choose between five or six members, now all teams had five members. When our team had five members, I was able to form the team immediately. I thought when the team was formed, all other interested candidates would automatically receive a declined messaged. It turned out to be not the case. Team leaders actually had to decline all interested candidates individually. It would be great if the system could do that automatically.
Prior to Dictation Challenge Season 9, my stats were 404 Japanese entries with 89% and 1146 Korean entries with 86%, totaling 1550 entries with 86%. These numbers were unchanged from the end of Dictation Challenge Season 8.
After the 31 days of dictation during the month of May, my stats increased to a total of 1964 entries with 88%, which included 404 Japanese entries with 89% and 1560 Korean entries with 87%. During the 31 days, I listened exclusively to Korean entries.
During the Challenge:
With the new system, a team update post was not really necessary. I thought the system would update instantaneously after we achieved the 800 main HuJiang coins per day, but it turned out that the system took 24 hours to update. It would be great if the system can be updated immediately so we could keep track of the progress of team members in real time. Nonetheless, a team post was created and daily updates could be posted for team members who were interested in doing that.

I achieved my goal of obtaining 800 maximum HuJiang coins everyday for all 31 days, totaling 24,800 HuJiang coins.

All 5 members of our team (#I091) completed the challenge with attendance for all 31 days. We were, however, unable to achieve the goal of 800 maximum HuJiang coins everyday since one member was unable to max out on one day. We obtained the runner-up prize instead of the top prize.

During Season 9 of the Dictation Challenge, I completed the four Korean dictation programs and was working on two others:

I did not encounter new challenges during this Dictation Challenge since this was the third time I took part in the activity. I prefer to complete my required entries first thing in the morning, immediately after I woke up. It was a great way to start a day; it was very empowering. I would not want to imagine the frustration if I waited until the last minute and that found the server down. Actually, sometimes I did find the server to be unstable. On several occasions, I did experience the site server not responding, or I could not hear the audio. The problem would be rectified in a few hours. For sure, it would be very frustrating if I had to submit my entries last minute. I kept the morale of the team up by keeping in touch with them and sent out gifts once in a while.
After the Challenge:
This was the third time the top prize had eluded me. Just when you thought you were close, you reached out your hand to it, only to realize it was only a mirage.
Anyhow, I am impressed with the great leap in the technological upgrade of the Dictation Challenge system. It would be even better if a ranking system can be added so we can see in real time the ranking of all the teams; we would be able to know exactly where we stood. Also, I understood that the system was updated every 24 hours, but I was confused as to why the pie chart constantly showed 1600 as the maximum; we could only earn a maximum of 800 coins per day. For some reason, the team tab disappeared on the last day of the Challenge (May 31). Another question I had was the team status. Even after the challenge ended, all members are still grouped together as a team. Does the team dissolve when the next season starts, or we have to manually dissolve the team? These questions will probably be answered with the start of the next season.
I look forward to Season 10!
