Don't gossip
A dark side of almost any corporate environment is that people tend to form cliques or social hierarchies. And sometimes when a new employee is being trained, someone along the way will be unprofessional enough to offer you his or her opinion of another co-worker. Don't indulge by laughing or, worse, taking that opinion as gospel. Give everyone you meet a fair chance and don't form opinions--good or bad--about anyone until your direct interactions with that person give you reason to.
It's sometimes tough to not "join the crowd" when talk is going on. As the new guy, you don't know which lines to cross yet so it's best not to indulge in any conversation that could be negative. By gently changing the subject you can perhaps let those people know that you're not interested in playing that particular game.
