3 CVs don’t always get read by people

Some (but not all) recruitment agencies receive online applications and screen the CVs using software that reads them and picks out keywords. These keywords will be the buzzwords that feature in the job application, for example, sales, negotiation, account management and so on. If your CV is written in prose, you could be wasting valuable space. To appeal to both humans and scanners, list your achievements or skills in bullet points. To gain an insight into what methods the recruiter might use, go on the company website. Chances are if they manually screen CVs, they’ll want to advertise this to their clients. If there’s little mentioned about their screening process, it might be an indication that they use software.

4 Your application doesn’t always get seen by the employer

As we just touched on, when applying through a recruiter, they screen your CV on behalf on the client. This means that you’re applying to a company through a different one, which can get confusing. The criteria on the job advert however, will be what the client has requested. So to better your chances of having your CV passed on to the employer, try to match the requirements of the ad as closely as possible.

Some recruiters will bin any CV that has mistakes on it, regardless of the academic achievements or wealth of experience. This is because they could give off a bad impression to clients if they keep CVs on file that look unprofessional. You may have checked your CV a million times, but get other people to check it for you too – errors can easily sneak their way in, even if you’re a good speller.
一些招聘人员会直接丢掉有错误的简历,无论其学术成就或经验价值。因为保留看起来不专业的简历可能会给他们的客户留下坏印象。你或许已经数次检查过简历,但还是请别人帮你检查一下吧——错误很容易就会溜进你的简历,即使你是个写作高手。
