The MM26553 is a peak current-mode-controlled LED driver, capable of driving an LED string in several different architectures: boost, buck-boost, SEPIC, flyback, and high-side buck topologies.

MM26553是以峰值电流模式控制的发光二极体驱动器,能够驱动多种不同架构内的发光二极体灯串,如:升压、降压、单端初级电感转换器、反驰及高压端降压拓朴。


The MM26553 offers several features: a dimming driver designed to drive an external p-channel MOSFET, extremely fast PWM current switching to the LEDs without transient overvoltage or under voltage, analog dimming, programmable switching frequency between 100kHz and 1MHz, and the option of either a ramp output for frequency dithering or a voltage reference for precisely setting the LED current with few external components.

MM26553具有多种特色:设计用以驱动金属氧化物半导体场效电晶体外部p-通道的调光式安定器、极度快速的脉冲宽度调变电流,使转入发光二极体时不会出现顺态过压或欠压、模拟调光、介于100K赫兹及1M赫兹的可程式开关频率、及从频率抖动的斜坡输出,或是以少量外部元件,精确设置发光二极体电流的参考电压两者择一。


The step-by-step design process detailed in the application note can speed up prototyping and increase the chance for first-pass success.

This application note is separated into Part 1 and Part 2.

Part 1 focuses on a boost converter design example.

However, the same process can be applied to other topologies as long as the underlying equations are understood.

Assume that each LED has a typical forward voltage drop of 3V and a dynamic resistance of 0.2Ω.

Also assume that the LED driver circuit is running directly off of the car battery, which has a typical voltage of 12V but can vary from 6V to 16V.

Since the LED string voltage is inside the input voltage range, the buck-boost configuration is chosen.
