What should we do to release the aerophobia after the MH17 tragedy

As for the tourists who have got the aerophobia, the crash of MH17, happened on July 7, could let them get away from boarding. Experts commonly think this kind of mentality is unwise. However, 6.5%(or 2 billion populations) will be effected by this accident according to the data from National Institute of Mental Health. And this symptom is called as anxiety of aerophobia.

Then what should the clients do if this kind of catastrophic accident happens? The famous aerospace psychologist offers a few of tips for us. Let me show you.

Do not read too many news which concern about the plane crash.

Carol Scott who has operated a company named “No fear of flight” for 35 years published an article about the aerophobia. He suggests: First of all, do not read too many details about the plane crash as it will only increase your fear. Second, do not watch any movies acted by Bruce Willis nor the films about the air crash. Actually, you should watch some boring ones.

Do keep the scientific facts and data in mind.

We should all hear about that it is more possible for someone to die of sliding in the bathtub than of plane crash. Tom Bonn, the captain of an airline company as well as the founder of SOAR program (Fear of flying Help Center), thinks it is rare that something happens to you. In fact, the possibility of the fateful air crash is very low, which is estimated between 1/11 million and 1/29.4 million. Jeff Wise, the scientific author of Extreme fear: The science of your mind in danger, suggests that taking a plane is safer than driving a car even the accidents like Malaysia airline happens every day.

You need to be positive.

Do remember what you have said may make you feel anxious. So do not complain like that, for instance, you are on the edge of breakdown, or you are stroke. Instead, you could say “I have some uncomfortable conditions.”
