教育的本质

教育的本质是什么?教育的本质并非传递知识,而是传递生命的意义。

在一个暴风雨后的早晨,一位男子在海边散步,注意到沙滩的浅水洼里,有许多被昨夜暴风雨卷上来的小鱼。被困的小鱼尽管在海边,也许有几百条,甚至几千条,然而用不了多久,浅水洼里的水就会被砂砾吸干,被太阳蒸发,小鱼就会干涸而死。这位男士突然发现有一个小男孩不停地从浅水洼里捡起小鱼,扔回大海。

The essence of education

What is the essence of education? It is to spread the meaning of life rather than simply spread the knowledge. In a fierce rainstorm morning, a man had a stroll along the seaside. Suddenly he found numerous small fishes trapped in the shallow beach due to the yesterday’s rainstorm. Although thousands of fishes were stranded on the seashore, it was not a long time until all shallow water in the gravels evaporated by sun. Finally all fish will die of lacking of water. It was surprised to find that a child constantly held up small fishes from the water and gently put them into the sea.

他就问: “孩子, 这水洼里有几百条小鱼,你救不过来的。

“我不知道”小男孩头也不回地回答。

“哦?那你为什么还在扔?谁在乎呢?”

“这条小鱼在乎!”男孩儿一边回答,一边捡起一条雨扔向大海。

 “Hi, children, do you know how many fishes were there in the shallow water?” He asked.

“I do not know.” He answered it without turning around his head.

“Oh? Why do you continue to do it? Who will care it?”

“The fishes care.” He still put them into the sea when answering the question.           

这个故事恰好对应了泰戈尔老人的一句话“教育的目的应当是向人传送生命的气息”

教育之“育”应该从尊重生命开始,是人性向善,使胸襟开阔,使人唤起自身身上美好的“善根”,也就是让学生拥有“这条鱼在乎”的美丽心境。

时下,我们的学校教育往往忽略了学生基本人格、基本道德、基本感情的养成,以至于有些学生对生命、对世事愈来愈冷淡、冷漠甚至冷酷。

一位日本教育家说过这样一句话,我们要培养学生“面对一丛野菊花而砰然心动的情怀”,这种情怀就是在乎沙滩上每一条小鱼生命的男孩所拥有的情怀.

This tiny story justly reflects Tagore’s famous words, namely, the goal of education is to spread the vigor of life.

Education should start from respecting human life. It is the root of pursuing goodness, expanding mind and inspiring inner mercy. It is the respect of life that makes child own the thought of caring about the fish.

Currently our education always understates to cultivate students’ basic personality, ethics, and emotion, which leads to the phenomena that students show their coldness, indifference and even grimness toward life and affair.

A Japanese educator once said we should develop students with deep emotion that they confront with a cluster of wild chrysanthemum with a flipped feeling.

Such feeling is the same with the small child who cherishes each weak life.
