Way 1."ing"\"ly"make the sentences lively and attractive.Combine "ing"+"ly"or vice versa. When you can't choose one or the other.Choose both!

1. Softly singing, the new mother rocked her baby to sleep.

2. Professionally estimating the cost, the salesman helped the family choose a new stereo system.
3. Slowly walking, the old man and the old woman circled  the park.
4. Happily talking, the young couple missed the bus.

Way2.Use two adjectives to start a sentence.It's a descriptive way to begin.

1. Frightened and nervous, the little boy begged his  father to let him sleep with the light on. 

2. Tired and hungry, John came home from school.

3. Kind and loving, the little girl took care of her sick kitten.

4. Truthful and kind, the doctor carefully explained his diagnosis. 

Way3.Use a prepositional phrase to make for an exciting beginning.

We had dinner after we went home  → After we went home, we had dinner.

There are thirty kinds of ice cream in the shop → In the shop, there are thirty kinds of ice cream.
Twenty small, glass bottles sat on the shelf   → On the shelf, sat twenty small, glass bottles.

Convert the following sentences so that the prepositional phrase is at the beginning.

1. The neighbors across the street were putting up a "For Sale" sign.

2. The phone rang about two o'clock in the morning when it was perfectly quiet.
3. There is an old and quite scary house down by the river.
4. There are many floral treasures in the weedy, overgrown garden.

5. You have to be careful walking along the busy, city street.

6. I have received many wonderful gifts from my grandmother.

1. Across the street, the neighbors were putting up a "For Sale" sign. 

2. About two o'clock in the morning, when it was perfectly quiet the phone rang.

3. Down by the river, there is an old and quite scary house.

4. In the weedy, overgrown garden, there are many floral treasures. 

5. Along the busy, city street, you have to be careful walking.

6. From my grandmother, I have received many wonderful  gifts.
