Edward: I face a challenge of my inheritance…If they win, I will lose half of what I own.

Jane: Not this house.

Edward: No, no, this house is quite safe. I didn’t make myself clear. It will  only affect my property in Hampshire.

Jane: The cottage.

Edward: I don’t want you to worry. There will always be a place here for you and mother .

Jane: Edward, the cottage is where I write.

Edward: Oh Jane, Only if you would  be less proud.  Only if you were married.

 


Jane’s mother: My sons have always done the best for this family, but she is selfishselfish girl. I saw you with Mr. Bridges, flirting

like a silly girl. He is married man. If you wanted to be Mrs. Bridges, the vicar’s wife. You should say yes when he asked you.

Jane: That’s easy, but I didn’t want to.

Jane’s mother: It’s as if you are waiting for a better offer. The rich man with a big house. Oh, No .you had tha tand threw it away. You’ve thrown away your life and mine and your sister’s with it.Because no , he wasn’t good enough for Clever Miss Jane with her fancy ideas…

Jane: I couldn’t marry a man I don’t love.

Jane’s mother: Then did you say yes….

Jane: I made a mistake.

Jane’s mother: Your mistake is waking up in the morning and take it back.

Jane: what do you want me to do?  Sell myself for money.

Jane’ mother: I would be rich. Yes, well, rich is just another word for safe…You sacrificed all our security on your principle,

Jane. Has that made you happy? …

 

Did she ever regret ?(Mr. Bridges)

Jane: You are always enthusiastic. That’s what oneneeds most in a

man.

Mr. Bridges:  I have waited for the news for you getting married.

Jane: As every woman knows that  there is scarcity in men in general. Even the greatest scarcity there is little good for

much.

Mr. Bridges: You can behind your clever words as much as you like…

Jane: Good. Because my clever words are the only things that put a roof over my head or over mother’s or my sister’s.

I have to be my own husband, it seems and theirs.

Mr.Bridges: I once could put a roof over your head and cherish you,      dear Jane until death, do us apart.

 

Mr. Bridges: I wouldn’t prevent you from writing if that’s your fear.

Jane: How I could ever have written if we’d be married? All  the effort ofmothering. We’d be too poor.

Mr. Bridges: You are poor anyway.

Jane: We did make each other laugh. Is that marriage is ?

Mr.Bridges:I suppose no man in flesh would be worthy for  the creator of Mr. Darcy.

Jane: You are quite wrong about him. He wouldn’t done anything for me at all.

Mr.Bridges: If have plucked up the courage after we danced at the ball.

Jane: we’d be too young.

Mr. Bridges: And later, when I did ask you.

Jane: I simply went off the whole idea of marrying anybody.

Mr. Bridges: Tell me now you regretted. Tell me sometimes in the night you will think of me. Tell me even iti sn’t true.

Jane:  What on earth would be the point?

What would you choose ?

To marry sb you don’t love and have a secure life

Or

To die alone but with freedom?
