告别Chinglish —— 人际交往中你不得不知的英语俚语

      作为母语是中文的英语学习者,特别是英语初学者,想必经常遇到的一大难题就是难以规避的Chinglish表达。我们的母语环境在每一位学习者身上都刻上了深深的烙印,产生了极具标志性的影响。这样的影响从表面来看在于语言,从深层来看,其实在于思维

      细心并且渴求突破学习瓶颈的你,一定还记得词场君分享给大家的“体验式学习法“。想必大家也了解到:体验式学习法的要点之一是培养英语思维,将英语学习切实地联系到自身的生活体验和经历中词场君一直秉承这样的观点:语言学习的最终目的是交流,活学活用才是根本之道。因此如何让我们所讲的英语真正为native的老外所听懂,是我们进行英语交流的最初出发点也是最终归宿

      可是一讲到交流,大家就要哭诉:“老外讲的话明明每个词我都认识,但连起来我就是搞不清楚正确的意思。”或者:“我讲的话没有错啊,和我构想的中文意思一字不差、一一对应呢,可是为什么老外就是听不懂?”小伙伴们,这就是词场君所说的文化和思维差异啦。

       简单地说,为了达到语言交流的目的,我们就要有意地规避明显存在的文化和思维差异,尽可能地贴近目标语言惯用的表达方式。在本文中,词场君暂且将这些惯用的表达方式称作“俚语”(实际上,依据不同标准,对于“俚语”一词的定义也是不一的)。词场君再次吐血整理了一些与人际交往相关的常用俚语。不用多说,直接上表格。绝对精华,值得小伙伴们猛烈收藏!

leave someone high and dry 使……孤立无援
e.g. Don't rely on him. He will leave you high and dry.


make it easy on sb. 放某人一马
e.g. I'll make it easy on you, if you promise to be on time for work from now on.


beat sb. to the draw 比……抢先一步
e.g. I lost the project. Johnson beat me to the draw.


fill me in on 告诉我(=tell me)
e.g. What's your plan? Please fill me in on!

get over 原谅,克服
e.g. I just can't get over him.


set sb. up 陷害某人
e.g. I didn't steal your book. I was set up!

out of one's mind 发神经,失去理智
e.g. You must be out of my mind to lend him money.

get to sb. 使……烦心
e.g. Don't let it get to you.

spit it out 有话直说
e.g. I took a long time answering, so my teacher told me spit it out.


look up to sb. 尊敬,崇拜
e.g. A lot of people look up to the professor.


sb./sth. is history ……不再重要
e.g. That girl is history. I've already got over her.

keep one's edge 保持最好状态
e.g. You have to practice every day in order to keep your edge.

blow hot and cold 飘忽不定,犹豫不决
e.g. Speaking of marriage, he blew both hot and cold.

cross one's heart 发誓(在胸前画十字架)
e.g. Cross my heart! I never cheated you.

get high hat 摆架子
e.g. Don't get high hat!

keep one's shirt on 保持冷静(=take it easy)
e.g. Keep your shirt on. We have plenty of time to catch the train.

bleeding heart 老好人(=kind man)
e.g. He was accused of being a bleeding heart on welfare issues.

give sb. a hand 提供帮助
e.g. Please give me a hand and hold this board while I paint it.

pull one's leg 开某人玩笑
e.g. You are always pulling my leg.

go for broke 放手一搏,孤注一掷
e.g. I'll go for broke in this exam.

add up 讲得通(=make sense)
e.g. His story just doesn't add up. He must be lying.

jump to conclusions 仓促地下结论
e.g. Don't jump to conclusion. I will prove myself.

round the clock 夜以继日地
e.g. The ambulance services worked round the clock.

have an ace in the hole 底牌,杀手锏
e.g. Tom seems awfully confident. He must have an ace in the hole.


in the bag 稳操胜券
e.g. We have the deal in the bag. The client came in the morning to sign the agreement.


       通过以上整理,想必大家对与人际交往相关的俚语已经有了初步的认识。词场君提醒大家:收藏了这些常用表达法后,一定要记得经常将它们拉出来晒晒哦!只有勤练多说,这些俚语才会真正为你所用。有一天你必将告别Chinglish,脱口而出地道的英语表达!
